THICK ‘n TEXTURED DISH SPONGE -FREE CROCHET PATTERN

Know what’s better than a crochet dishcloth? A double sided thick sponge with texture! This thick n textured dish sponge free crochet pattern will keep you hands happy and your pans safe from scratches when you’re washing up after all the holiday meals.

The free pattern is a great challenge for beginners. Once you make a couple, they’re super easy to whip up in stacks to sell at festivals and markets. They make great housewarming and wedding gifts too! Cause you know, everyone has to wash dishes!

THICK N TEXTURED DISH SPONGE – FREE CROCHET PATTERN

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Crochet Hook – 4.5mm

Scissors

Yarn Needle

Worsted Cotton Yarn

Finished Size Approx 4 inches square

ABBREVIATIONS:

CHAIN – CH

SINGLE CROCHET – SC

SINGLE CROCHET BACK LOOP ONLY – SCBLO

SLIP STITCH – SL ST

BOBBLE – DOUBLE CROCHET 4 TOGETHER BOBBLE – YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops. Repeat from * 3 more times into same space. Then YO and pull through all loops on hook.

NOTE ABOUT YARN USED/COLOR/ETC

100% cotton yarn is best for items like these. It washes well is better at holding it’s shape.

The sponge pattern is fun to make a variety of colors!

Pattern

Make 2 squares

FIRST SQUARE:

CH 14

ROW 1

SC in 2nd stitch from hook and SC in every stitch to the end, CH 1, turn

ROW 2

SC in 2nd stitch from hook, *BOBBLE in the next stitch, SC in the next stitch, repeat to the end with SC in the last stitch, CH 1, turn

ROWS – 3 – 11

Repeat alternating ROWS 1 & 2, last row being all SC, after last stitch cut and pull yarn through. Weave in end or leave and can put in middle of the 2 pieces.

SECOND SQUARE:

CH 16

ROW 1

SCBLO in 2nd stitch from hook and SCBLO in every stitch to the end, CH 1, turn

ROWS 2 – 14

Repeat ROW 1

DON’T CUT YOUR END after the 2nd square is done

join your sides with SC
bring the first square front facing out up to the back of the 2nd square and join the 2 together with a SC
sc along the sides
SC to the end
3 sc in all the corners
3 SC in all the corners
sc evenly along the sides
SC as evenly as you can along the sides
stich marker the end of first row
Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of the 2nd round, when you get back to that, slip stitch there, cut and weave in your end.
